
1. Challenge Discovery Projects serves over 1,300 youths and adults annually in our community. Over 26,000 individuals have been served since its inception in 1980 (31 years), regardless of the client’s ability to pay.
2. Challenge Discovery Projects is a licensed agency by the Commonwealth of Virginia.
3. Bullies identified by age eight are six times more likely to be convicted of a crime by the time they reach 24 and five times more likely to have a serious criminal record by age 30.
4. One in four children in the U.S. is bullied. One in five students define themselves as a bully.
5. Say It With Heart currently impacts 900 students, 230 parents, and 50 teachers and operates in three elementary schools, one middle school, and one high school in the Greater Richmond Area. VHC counsels close to 400 teens every year.
6. Children served by VHC (Virginia Health Center) and Say It With Heart have an average household income significantly less than the national average and 98% of them qualify for free/reduced lunches.
7. VHC and Say It With Heart serve the City of Richmond with neighborhoods including Fairfield Court, Whitcomb Court, Creighton Court, and Fulton Court.
8. VHC is contracted by Richmond Juvenile and Domestic Relations District Court to provide drug screening and treatment recommendations for all adolescents involved in drug misuse/use.
9. Challenge Discovery Projects started Deaf & Hard of Hearing Community Counseling Services (DHHCCS) at the request of the Commonwealth of Virginia and is the only agency in Greater Richmond providing mental health/substance abuse counseling to the at-risk deaf and hard of hearing population, serving over 130 families annually.
10. DHHCCS has shown growth the last three years serving and identifying children who are in need of our assistance.
