Community Engagement Initiatives

Community Based Support:

Each summer, Challenge Discovery Projects offers Camp Discovery - a comprehensive social and emotional learning experience for youth and adolescents of Richmond. The purpose of Camp Discovery is to provide youth with fun and interactive opportunities to better understand their past traumas and how adverse experiences impact the choices and decisions they make. Sessions provided during the camp include:    

  • Emotional literacy

  • Coping skills

  • Therapeutic Arts

  • Culinary Arts

  • Life skills

The 2022 Camp Discovery schedule:

  • 3 weeks in July (July 12th  through 29th ) for ages 9-12 years

  • 3 weeks in August (August 9th through 26th ) for ages 13-16 years

Community Engagement Initiatives

Challenge  Discovery Projects works in conjunction with community members to build partnerships to teach basic social, emotional and communication skills. We also offer single-session workshops and multi-session programs covering a variety of topics based on the needs of our diverse community of partners. In addition to school-based programs, Challenge Discovery Projects offers programs at community-based organizations, faith-based organizations, colleges, detention centers, resident/tenant councils, and civic associations.
